What do you do when you want a swimming pool but your back yard drops off into a deep ravine? You build a terrace. Working with engineers, we structured a tall concrete wall to support the pool and surrounding terrace, complete with an integrated spa and custom gas fire pit. The mahogany deck offers outdoor dining, as well as storage beneath and a shower at the pool level. To contrast with the dark, warm brown of the Arts and Crafts style house, we used a light cream-colored Giallo stone for pavers and the fire pit. Abundant blooms surrounding the space attract butterflies and hummingbirds to this sanctuary.
